Why I do not preach about Dr. King on MLK Sunday (Video)

“This may seem counter-intuitive but out of deep respect for the life and work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I seldom preach about him on his birthday. There are several reasons for this, and the sermon will lift up the intention behind this stance.”

The Rev. Colleen Squires, (she/her) is the Senior Minister at All Souls Community Church of West Michigan, a Unitarian Universalist Congregation. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Ministerial Formation at Meadville Lombard Theological School. Colleen’s focus in her ministry is around social justice issues concerning LGBTQ youth and the eradication of white supremacy from our world. Colleen and her wife of 32 years, Linda, live in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
