This Sunday marks the time of Yom Kippur in the Jewish tradition. A time of atonement. It is no frivolous play on words to call it a time of at-one-ment. In this time of turning, in this season of changing colors, the religious response is to turn toward that which knows a oneness in life.
Rev. Kate Lore is our interim pastoral care services minister. She was our guest speaker who spoke on August 6 of this year. She retired a year ago following five years as minister of the Quimper UU Fellowship in Port Townsend (where she still lives). Before that, she served The First Unitarian Church in Portland for 10 years as their social justice minister. Over the years, Rev. Kate has created a community outreach program, started a family shelter in Portland, served as a non-violent conflict mediator, and been the director of the Home Free Domestic Violence Program.
