Grief is always preceded by loss. But not every loss is acknowledged or grieved. There is an art to recognizing loss in our lives, and an art to nurturing grief until it carries us all the way into genuine transformation and gratitude.
Cynthia Trenshaw: About once a decade my life has required that I reinvent myself. I’ve been a wife and mother, a hospital chaplain, a professional guardian, a midwife to the dying. I’ve provided skilled massage therapy and compassionate presence to homeless people on the streets of San Francisco. I’ve served as a Guardian ad Litem for the Superior Courts of four Washington counties. In this current decade I’ve become a published author; my first nonfiction book is Meeting in the Margins: An Invitation to Encounter Society’s Invisible People (She Writes Press, Berkeley) which won a 2018 Independent Publisher Book Award gold medal in Social Issues. My poetry has been published in over a dozen literary reviews and in my first book of poetry, Mortal Beings, published in 2019 by Finishing Line Press.
