This Sunday in the Christian calendar is known as Palm Sunday when tradition says that Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on the foal of a donkey. Although the story might be familiar, the meaning of this act which introduces the final “holy” week before Easter deserves exploration. Ecumenical activist theologian Ched Myers describes this act as political theater, designed to challenge the dominant militaristic myths of the day. In our time, we can hear this story as an invitation to us as well to rouse ourselves from the slumber-inducing dominate narrative, and wake up to alternative paths.
