Pathway to Membership
We invite you to become a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island!
First …
For all those who do not already have a Unitarian-Universalist background we offer, “Starting Point,” a class taught by our minister and other church leaders. The class is held two to three times per year. In this 2-part 7 hour course, the presenters discuss the history and principles of our liberal faith, and how we are governed. You will also learn about the rights and responsibilities of membership and about some of our programs.
Speak to the person you see at the hospitality table on Sunday morning. We will make sure that you are invited to the next class.
*Due to the novel Coronavirus, we have shifted these classes to a virtual format. .
When you decide to join …
The first step in becoming a member after attending the Starting Point course, is to fill out a membership card. This card is an official declaration of your choice to be part of this UUCWI community. Our Bylaws require all members to declare their commitment to UUCWI by signing this card each year during our annual Stewardship Appeal. In addition to making clear that you want to be part of this congregation, this card allows you to tailor a commitment of financial support to UUCWI, detailing an amount and a schedule for your financial contribution. You can get this card from the minister, a member of the Membership Committee or our treasurer.
Finally, you will sign the membership book. This can be done privately with a Membership Committee person. Soon after, the Membership Committee will introduce you to the congregation in a brief ceremony during one of our Sunday services.
If you have questions about our membership process, please talk with someone on the Membership Committee. Or email us!
