We view our world through two very different lenses of ‘mind’ and ‘spirit’, or metaphorically, ‘head’ and ‘heart’. Our western culture emphasizes the view through the tangible, external, objective lens of science and reason. It is also meaningful to see our world through the intangible, internal, subjective lens of spirituality and human feeling. The latter perspective, passed down for millennia through myths and legends populated by fairies, demons, sprites, elves, pixies, leprechauns, gnomes, angels, and dreams, provided an important basis for ethical and moral direction. The speaker’s Quaker faith and practice attempt to balance these viewpoints through “Practical Mysticism”.
