This sabbat, our potluck, is for the trees. Wassail was originally a drink of spiced ale, with bits of toast. The practice of Wassailing the trees comes from England where revelers gathered in orchards and sang to the trees, drank to their health, poured hot cider over their roots, left cider-soaked toast in their branches for the birds, and scared away evil spirits with a great shout and banging of pots.
Please bring a gift for Mother Nature — bird seed treats, suet, or wassail are all good ideas. We will bless these gifts and then wassail the trees that grow around our sanctuary. If you wish to bring wassail home to bless your own trees, then please bring a container.
